Abstract

This article develops a conceptual model of Sustainable Islamic Governance for the Bahrul Ulum Menganti Gresik Islamic Educational Foundation (YPI) by integrating strategic branding, leadership, and financial engineering within an Islamic governance perspective. Based on a dissertation proposal and a review of relevant literature, the article does not claim empirical findings, as fieldwork has not yet been conducted. The methodology employs a conceptual review involving the mapping of theories and prior research, synthesized into an analytical framework relevant to the YPI Bahrul Ulum case study. Preliminary proposal data indicates a staff of approximately 101 educators and a student body of 2,445 across various levels—ranging from early childhood education (KB/TK) to primary (MI), junior secondary (MTs/SMP), and senior secondary (MA/SMK) schools—though these figures require verification against official foundation documents. The study demonstrates that the sustainability of an Islamic educational foundation cannot be adequately understood solely in terms of student enrollment growth or financial health. Instead, sustainability must be viewed as a configuration of legitimacy and trust, leadership direction, the capacity to manage and diversify funding sources, and governance grounded in the principles of *amanah* (trustworthiness), justice, transparency, accountability, *shura* (consultation), *ihsan* (excellence/benevolence), and *maslahah* (public interest). The proposed model positions Islamic governance as a normative framework linking these three strategic elements to institutional, financial, and educational service sustainability, as well as stakeholder relations and organizational adaptation. The article concludes by formulating five conceptual propositions that can be tested and further developed through fieldwork.
